Race Meeting Awards

CGRC caps and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards laid out for the podium

PODIUM — The top 3 finishers in each class take their place on the podium ceremony to receive a trophy, a bottle of champagne and a cap.

BEST IMPROVER — These are presented to the driver who has made up the most places from their qualifying positions to race finish results (cumulative total across all races). One award is presented per class for the whole weekend; if there is a tie it will go to the driver who has the faster best lap time.

OG MASTERS — This award is given to the driver over a certain age who gets the best single race result over the weekend. One award is presented per class for the whole weekend; if there is a tie it will go to the driver who has the faster best lap time.

The age cut-off changes each event; it will be based on the oldest 25% of the field in each class (so the age may be different for each class).

We will publish the cutoff age via WhatsApp\Email in the run up to the weekend once the majority of entries have been received.

NOTE: For the purpose of these Race Meeting Awards it does not matter if a driver is a Championship Member, Trophy Member or Guest Member; however drivers of development cars or drivers using alternative tyres are not eligible to win these awards.

End of Season Trophies

CHAMPIONSHIP (for Championship members only) — Awards are given to the top 3 drivers in each class. Each race score is based on a driver’s finishing position relative to other Championship members, with an additional point available for fastest lap. Each driver’s best 13 finishes from the 16 championship rounds count towards the final championship standings—i.e. 3 dropped scores.

One of the individual championship winners gets the honour of racing with the number 1 on their car the following season; decided by drawing from a hat/toss of a coin.

TROPHY (for Trophy members only) — Awards are given to the top 3 Trophy members in each class (subject to minimum entry numbers). Positions in the Trophy standings are decided by the overall race positions (ignoring guests) at the 3 rounds (6 races) nominated by each individual driver, with an additional point available for fastest lap (if it is the fastest overall lap for that class). Each driver drops their worst score, meaning 5 results count towards the final standings.

The Martin Kay Trophy

BEST CONSISTENT FINISHER (for Championship members only) —

This award is for the top placed driver who has finished every Championship race of the year but has finished outside of the top 3 in the Championship standings. There is one award per class.

REVOLUTION RACING NOVICE TROPHY (for all members) —

Awarded to the highest scoring novice; this is an overall award across both classes.

To be eligible for the award a driver must not have competed in a competitive circuit race which required a Motorsport UK (including Motorsport Association) licence, before the start of the season.

SMART CLINIC DRIVERS DRIVER (for all members) —

For this award, a shortlist of the best performing drivers from the season is put together by the CGRC board of directors. The membership then gets to vote for who they think should win the award.

Nominations and votes are made on the basis of consistency, clean/fair racing, and outright pace.

MARTIN KAY TROPHY (for all members) —

Martin was a dedicated club member who sadly died well before his time in 2016. He always loved his racing, regularly competing in two CGRC classes (and sometimes 3!) on the same weekend. The trophy is awarded to the member that the CGRC board of directors feel best epitomises Martin’s pure love of racing with the club.

The winner gets the honour of racing with the number 7 on their car the following season.

VISCOM DESIGN DRIVING STANDARDS AWARD (for all members) — Awarded by the CGRC Driving Standards Team to the driver whose driving on the circuit, and attitude off it, best reflects the respectful racing that CGRC is all about.

All End of Season Trophies and Awards are presented at the CGRC end of season dinner, held after the season has finished (typically in November each year).
